Get in the Game

Get in the Game is an exploration of the material world of gaming. Throughout the semester we will trace the history of games and gameplay from the nineteenth century to the present, considering how these games transport us to playing fields, battlefields, and fantasy worlds. Spanning classic cardboard games to new VR experiences, we will investigate embodied gaming experiences, dig into gaming theory, and discuss how galleries and museums can utilize these concepts to enhance in-person and online exhibitions. The semester will culminate in the creation of an online exhibition that showcases our findings and accompanies an imagined physical exhibition that gamifies the BGC Gallery! 3 credits. Satisfies the digital literacy project requirement.
