“Research and Conservation in the Human Sciences,” a week-long summer school for HBCU students organized in conjunction with The Alliance of HBCU Museums and Galleries, will engage undergraduate scholars in a rigorous academic exploration of conservation. The seminar will examine theories and practices of conservation, its impact on objects, and the cultures and societies in which these objects are found. In doing so, we hope to introduce students interested in art history, theory, and practice to the range of professional applications for these interests, including graduate-level research.
“Research and Conservation” will join a sequence of summer programs which The Alliance is
currently planning with their partners for 2021 on curation and archives at Princeton and on
technical art history and conservation at Yale and Winterthur.
This summer intensive seminar will include classroom meetings, curator- and conservator-led
presentations, guest lectures and workshops, evening discussions, and a capstone writing
assignment refined and workshopped over the course of the week.
