On October 27 to celebrate Archtober, NYC’s architecture and desgin month, Bard Graduate Center, Architexx, the AIA’s Women in Architecture and Diversity and Inclusion Committees, along with Wikimedia NYC, will host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to address the lack of entries on Wikipedia about contributions by women, LGBTQI communities, and artists of color to the fields of architecture and design history. The event, which will take place on Saturday, October 27 from 12–4 pm at the Bard Graduate Center, is designed to improve coverage of the arts on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, and refreshments. No prior Wikipedia experience required but we do encourage attendees to bring a laptop if possible.

ARCHITEXX is a 501c3 non-profit organization for gender equality in architecture that seeks to transform the profession of architecture by bridging the academy and practice. We are a cross-generational group of academics and practitioners, and our organization is open to all women-identifying people and allies. We believe that seeds established in the academy and adopted in practice, are outdated models which perpetuate myths and unsustainable trends in the personal, private, and workplace group experience and public, client perception.

AIA New York’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee seeks to provoke a dialogue about diversity issues and give agency to issues of inclusion and representation. In 2008, the AIA National Board recognized that a key strategic initiative required the enlistment of “new talents and new insights to address the critical issues of our time and future generations. The local committee’s role works to match that of the Diversity & Inclusion Council at the National level.
